After sustaining a vocal injury that caused multiple European concert cancellations, Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine is back in action. The British band appeared on ABCs Good Morning AmericaWednesday, where Welch opened up toRobin Roberts about her scare.

I was singingand I actually felt it. I lost about three octaves, I had to sing really low just to get through the show, said Welch. The singer added she was desperate to do the shows, but that might have caused permanent damage to her vocal chords. The band opted to play it safe and ended up canceling a handful of performances.

With the band about to embark on a North American tour in October, it was imperative for Welch to rest her pipes. After performing her band's latest single, Spectrum, which is currently spending its second week at No. 1 in the UK, Welch said she was pleased her voice has healed well. It seems to still work, she joked.
The Spectrum remix by DJ Calvin Harris, which was released July 5, is Florence + The Machine's first UK chart topper.
