"Glee"

To say the Glee cast has a lot going on would be an understatement. On top of returning to work this week to start production on the fourth season of the Fox musical dramedy, the young cast of the series is also juggling movies, books and recording their own albums.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with stars Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Chord Overstreet and Matthew Morrison as well as exec producer Ian Brennan to get the dish on what's ahead on Glee -- and beyond.

STORY: 'Glee': New Cast Members Jacob Artist and Dean Geyer on Mohawks and Coming Between Finn and Rachel

Lea Michele (Rachel)
What's ahead: Ms. Berry has her hands full with a roommate from hell and a new admirer in Brody Weston (Dean Geyer) whom she meets -- wait for it! -- in the co-ed bathroom of her dorm, Michele says. "He's definitely interested in her but I think that she is very hesitant because she doesn't really know where things stand with Finn; she doesn't want to make any moves before she knows where they stand and Brody's not going to give up," the actress tells THR of her new mentor -- who has already performed on Broadway. "He's like a cross between Jesse St. James and Finn." Elsewhere, Rachel's new roommate may not immediately be seen but she'll most definitely be heard. "You see Rachel for the first time in her bed, covering her ears from the sex noises that her roommate is making and you never see the roommate -- as of now -- you can just hear her," Michele says with a smile. "It's going to be hilarious."

Cory Monteith (Finn)
What's ahead: Monteith was a no-show at Fox's TCA party Monday night but executive producer Ian Brennan says Finn's status continues to confound his friends when Season 4 picks up. "We start up and no one has heard from Finn, no one really knows where he is; he's gone off to the Army and that's all we know," he notes. "Rachel is sort of forced with the question, 'Do I move on or don't I?' "

Chris Colfer (Kurt)
What's ahead: Confirmed series regular Colfer has yet to chat with co-creator Ryan Murphy about precisely where Kurt's story line is headed but knows the basics: "Kurt is going to be mentored by Sarah Jessica Parker and be in Ohio first and eventually get to New York but I don't know how he's going to do it," he offered. As for what Kurt's exit from Ohio could mean for his relationship with Blaine (Darren Criss), Colfer only knows one thing is certain -- he's glad he's not writing those scenes. "I'm so glad I'm not the decision maker in that one! I'm a chess piece, I'm not the player. I just hope the girls on Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter don't get mad at me!" he laughed. As for what he wants to see for his Glee counterpart, Colfer says it's time for Kurt to smile. "Kurt was so sad last season, he just lost so much -- he didn't get into the school play, he didn't get into college, he didn't get to be school president. I just want to see him win a little and be happy."
Beyond Glee: The Teen Choice Award winner has his hands full at the moment, promoting his film Struck By Lightning over the weekend at Outfest and touring the country to support his young-adult book In the Land of Stories. "I was really nervous no one was going to show up because I've never done anything just by my lonesome, I've always had my Glee stars with me on those things," he says. "But it's been fantastic and selling out some places. I couldn't be happier."

Amber Riley (Mercedes)
What's ahead: While Riley has yet to see a script for Season 4 yet, she's game for however much the series wants her there -- whether it's for story lines set in L.A. or not. "If it were up to me, I'd see Mercedes pursuing her dreams, where ever it is and if that's in L.A., I'd be A-OK with it," she says. As for if the guy who helped get the aspiring singer out to L.A in the first place, Riley is optimistic about a reunion with new series regular Chord Overstreet. "There may be some Samcedes again, who knows!"
Beyond Glee: Riley, who hosts Tuesday's episode of Oxygen's The Glee Project, said she was impressed by the skills of all the remaining contestants and noted Ali's voice gave her "goose bumps." Elsewhere, Riley's working -- and writing songs! -- for her solo album, which she described as "R&B with a pop feel." "It's hard to transition from actor to artist, it's hard to get people to see you in a different light," she told THR, noting that she and co-star Naya Rivera have been toying with the idea of recording a duet.

Chord Overstreet (Sam)
What's ahead: The new series regular starts shooting Tuesday and (shocker!) is game for a reunion with former flame Mercedes. "There's a potential for anything in TV, we will see what happens and see where the writers go with the story. I thought it was endearing that he still cared about her even though they weren't together," he told THR of Sam's romantic gesture that landed Mercedes a gig on the West Coast. As for returning to the depleted choir room, there's some work to be done after the departures of Rachel and company. "It's me, Kevin McHale (Artie) and Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) who are the ones left in the school and we all have to step up," he offered.

STORY: Comic-Con 2012: 'Glee': Damian McGinty Not Returning, Sue Gives Birth an 13 More Season 4 Spoilers

Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester)
What's ahead: Will has his hands full now that New Directions is a winner. "We've never been on top before, it's always been about molding this group of misfits to come to where we came and now it's a) how do you stay on top; and b) how do you keep the good spirits that you have and bring it to a new generation of kids?" Morrison told THR. "Glee is now the coolest club at school so everyone is auditioning and it's hard for me to find people who are actually passionate about performing." Outside of McKinley, Morrison hopes wedding bells will be ringing during Season 4. "They say it's in the cards that we'll have a wedding this year; that's why I think they're going to do it -- to have everyone come back for it."
Beyond Glee: Morrison spent the summer vacationing -- and in the studio recording his second album of Broadway standards.

Heather Morris (Brittany)
What's ahead: Morris was also MIA at Fox's shindig but Brennan says Brittany will be in a strange position having to return to McKinley as a second-year senior after failing to graduate with a 0.0 GPA. "A lot of what that character goes through is that it's not the greatest thing to be a super-senior, it's not so super; she's in a strange position where she's not like the rest of the kids there but not able to move on," he says of the one-time class president who is now without her girlfriend, Santana (Naya Rivera), who graduated and went off to college. "She's stuck in a way and she's away from the person who has been a huge thing for her for two years now."

Jacob Artist (Jake Puckerman)
What's ahead: Artist told THRthat he knows Puck's younger half-brother has an attitude that may hinder his efforts with New Directions, but Brennan hinted that the character's similarities to Puck (Mark Salling) may end there. "He's vastly different from any character we've had on the show in a really interesting and surprising way," he says. "There's great reveals with that character. We might have a star on our hands."
