Fox is going for a ride with Ichabod Crane.

The network has given a put-pilot commitment to an adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow from Fringe creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The duo's dramatic take on Sleepy Hollow is described as a modern-day supernatural thriller based on the 1820 short story in which Ichabod Crane partners with the town's local female sheriff to bring peace to a beleaguered community.

Kurtzman and Orci are attached to write the script alongside Phillip Iscove, who created the concept. The duo -- whose credits also include Alias, Hawaii Five-0 and features including Cowboys & Aliens -- will executive produce alongside Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall), who will also direct. (Wiseman previously helmed the pilot for Hawaii Five-0.)

The project hails from Kurtzman and Orci's 20th Television-based K/O Paper Products, with topper Heather Kadin on board as an EP. Under the overall deal, Kurtzman and Orci were most recently on board to executive produce a Western revolving around the life of Wyatt Earp with writer John Hlavin that ultimately wasn't picked up to pilot.

ABC last season also failed to produce Secret Cabinet, an hourlong White House drama from Jon Favreau, Orci, Seth Green and Michael Dougherty with Kurtzman on board as an EP last season after landing the project with a put-pilot commitment in October.

The pair also have a first-look deal with Universal Studios on the feature side.

Kurtzman and Orci are repped by CAA and Gendler Kelly. Fringe will begin its fifth and final season in September.
