Nerdist is using its geeky powers for good heading into next week's Comic-Con.
The company is teaming with Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm and Octagon to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation with a lightsaber relay that will see the popular Star Wars weapon journey from the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday to arrive at Comic-Con in San Diego on Wednesday.
STORY: AMC's 'Walking Dead' Talk Show, 'Comic Book Men' Renewed for Second Seasons
The Course of the Force charity event kicked off with (naturally!) a prequel: A Lightsaber's Journey, which finds Nerdist's Chris Hardwick delivering a lightsaber from San Francisco's ILM and delivering it to Santa Monica for the kick-off of the Comic-Con relay. But one person stands in his way: The Walking Dead executive producer Robert Kirkman.
Check out the lengths Kirkman, a frequent guest on Hardwick's AMC's Walking Dead postshow Talking Dead, makes the Comic-Con regular go to in order to clear his "security" in the origin story, written Saturday Night Live producers Erik Kenward and Scott Weinstein.
THR'S Comic-Con 2012 Coverage
The Course of the Force will culminate Wednesday at the Balboa Theatre in San Diego with a concert by the Dan Band at 12:30 p.m. For more details, head to Course of the Force's website.
Hardwick will moderate The Walking Dead, Dr. Who, Nerdist Channel, Disney and WB/Legendary panels at Comic-Con. Watch A Lightsaber's Journey, below.
