Comic-Con 2012: Warner Bros. Sets Free 'Extra' Outdoor Festival

Warner Bros Comic Con - P 2012

Warner Bros. Television is going beyond the San Diego Convention Center with its coverage this year.

As part of the annual geek-fest, the studio will for the first time host "Extra at Comic-Con," a live multiday entertainment event set to take place on a 60,000-square-foot outdoor stage at Bayfront Park.

Located near the massive convention center, where it will host panels for its various properties, the event will feature stars from series including Fringe, The Vampire Diaries and The Big Bang Theory, among others, with talent from the series participating in Q&As, live performances, screenings and interviews hosted by TV magazine Extra.

As part of the free event, which will help ease the woes for fans who don't make it into the various panel presentations, a makeshift Batcave will feature all six of Batman's Batmobiles from the TV series and film for the first time ever. In addition, ahead of its Dec. 14 theatrical release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Warner Bros. will showcase its upcoming video game titles featuring Gandalf and company: Guardians of Middle-earth, as well as Lego street art from Lord of the Rings: 3D.

"Everyone at Warner Bros. Television approaches Comic-Con as a fan-first experience. Its in our DNA, with everything we do -- from panels to signings to our bags, posters and more -- carefully curated with our fans in mind, said Lisa Gregorian, chief marketing officer at Warner Bros. Television Group.

"With the Extra at Comic-Con space, we have created a free and fun outdoor entertainment destination for fans," she added. "In addition to having all the Batmobiles on display and game demos, we will be hosting interviews throughout the day on the Extra stage, as well as evening and night events such as screenings and live comedy and musical performances after the convention floor closes for the day. Its additive to the experience of being at the Con.
