If youre at all familiar with My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding on TLC, then youre probably thinking thats the UKs problem. Think again, the network just debuted a first look at the U.S. extension of the franchise, My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding, premiering Sunday, April 29 at 10 p.m.

Its all there: The outrageous parties, the huge dresses, the barely there dresses and the unique mating customs. But, the shows narrator, KIIS FMs Ellen K, says there are some differences.
The Americans tend to want to break the gypsy code a little more, she tells The Hollywood Reporter. They have their own rules and they take them very seriously. They see other Americans especially the teens and want to sort of test the boundaries more than the gypsy culture in the UK. They do have the similarities of a fierce loyalty to each other and the way the women serve the men. The celebrations are equally as important across the board."

Theres only an estimated one million gypsies in the U.S. according to TLC. And youd think it would be tough to keep their over-the-top celebrations to themselves, but theyre apparently very secretive and very tightknit.
Ellen K points out, You know the family bond in the UK show? I feel its actually more important with the Americans, maybe because they havent been here as long as the UK gypsies. So they probably try to stick together more, because there arent as many.
