A&E is saying goodbye to Breakout Kings after two seasons, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Cast member Malcolm Goodwin, who played Shea on the series, broke the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon: So Breakout Kings is canceled. Thx to all 4 the luv & support over the last 2 seasons! It's been a fun experience! Much luv! On to the next.
The hourlong drama series from co-creators Nick Santora and Matt Olmstead wrapped up its 10-episode sophomore season on April 29.
The series debuted to 2.8 million viewers in March 2011, but by the time the two-hour season two finale aired, Breakout Kings had shed more than half its viewership. Season two began with the shocking death of a major character, Charlie (Laz Alonso).
When THR spoke to Santora prior to the finale, he speculated about a possible third season.
Our DVR+7 day numbers are really strong. A lot of people are watching the show; a lot of them just don't watch it on the night it premieres. That's what happens on Sundays now, he said at the time.
Breakout Kings was originally developed for Fox before A&E picked up the project in June 2010 from Fox 21 and Chernin Entertainment with a 13-episode series order.
