After a season of injuries, near-misses and a lot of harsh critiques from the judges, Dancing With the Stars underdogs Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy seem resigned to leaving the competition after Tuesday's results.

"Let's be realistic," said Chmerkovskiy. "We make it to the dance off, we're out, no matter what we do."

It's the final elimination duel of the season, which means the judges get the final say in who goes home, and their track record has them siding with the scores they've given the night before.

Gilbert and Chmerkovskiy go into the results show the lowest scorers, separated from second-lowest Jaleel White and Kym Johnson by a wide margin of four points.

"We're not going to win a dance off," Gilbert added, though she kept a good attitude about her experience on the show.

Chmerkovskiy appeared frustrated during the judging, but after the show said that he had just needed a moment to digest it.

"I'm not mad or angry... I was disappointed for a split second and then I snapped back into it," he said, before bringing up his rather consistent disagreements with the judges over the seasons. "I think I'm not ever going to do what they like to see. I believe in what I believe in."
