
With NBC'sThe Voice winding down to its season closer on May 8 and Fox'sAmerican Idol gearing up for an upcoming finale (May 22 and 23), ABC is just kicking into gear with its new singing competition series Duets, premiering May 24.

The show features four star singers --Idol season 1 winnerKelly Clarkson, Sugarland'sJennifer Nettles andR&B starsRobin Thicke(son of Alan) and John Legend, the latter who replaced Lionel Richie on April 30 (Richie cited scheduling difficulties as the reason for dropping out) -- in a countrywide search for undiscovered musical talent. The mentors ultimately will choose two singers to partner up, and in the end, one will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records, home to Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez(and a unit of Disney, ABC's parent company).

On Tuesday, potential viewers got their first peek at the show when host Quddus posted a series of photos from rehearsals via WhoSay. The first was of the set, which at a glance, seems to resemble Idol's motif and color palette. A second shot showed the four artists dressed down and working out what looked like a group performance (see photo). Inanother, Quddussnapped a meetingwhere the producers were explaining the scoring system.

Singing the praises of the new series, the former TRL hosttweeted, "The best way I can describe @DuetsABC is that it's an upgrade on everything that's been working in the singing competition genre."
